Step into the timeless tradition of the Moroccan hammam, a purifying steam ritual that has been at the heart of North African culture for centuries. Our authentic hammam experience begins with a gentle steam session to open pores, followed by a traditional black soap scrub that removes dead skin and impurities.
The session concludes with a nourishing argan oil treatment, leaving your skin silky smooth, deeply hydrated, and radiant. It's not just a treatment—it's a cultural experience.
The hammam is more than skincare—it's a journey of detoxification and renewal. The combination of steam, exfoliation, and argan nourishment restores your body's natural glow and leaves you feeling profoundly refreshed.
The Moroccan hammam is more than 1,000 years old — a weekly ritual that has shaped Moroccan family life, beauty traditions and even social bonds. At Chefchaouen Spa, we honor every step of the original ritual while presenting it in a modern, hygienic, private setting designed for international travelers and locals alike.
Our hammam room is built with handmade tadelakt walls, Zellige tiles and a heated marble slab. Eucalyptus-infused steam (40-45°C) gently opens your pores while you relax. Then begins the heart of the ritual: a generous coat of "savon noir" (savon beldi) — a traditional black soap made of crushed black olives, eucalyptus and potash — applied head to toe and left to soften the skin for several minutes.
Using the kessa, a coarse linen exfoliation glove, our trained tayeba (hammam expert) gently scrubs every centimeter of your skin, removing layers of dead cells you didn't know you had. Many guests are amazed at the visible "rolls" of dead skin lifted away — a hallmark of the authentic experience. A rinse with lukewarm water leaves your body almost reborn.
Next comes a ghassoul clay mask, a mineral-rich Moroccan clay from the Atlas mountains that draws out impurities, balances oil production and softens skin and hair. We finish with a head-to-toe argan oil massage to lock in moisture, leaving your skin glowing, soft and deeply hydrated for days.
Whether you choose the standard 60-minute hammam, the deluxe 90-minute hammam + argan ritual, or our combo with float therapy or massage, this is the most authentic Moroccan beauty experience you can have in Chefchaouen — and one of the most memorable parts of any visit to the Blue City.

Eucalyptus steam opens pores; black soap and ghassoul clay then pull out oil, dust and pollution — perfect after exploring dusty medinas.
Heat dilates blood vessels and promotes sweating, helping the body release toxins through skin — leaving you feeling lighter and energized.
After exfoliation, the skin absorbs argan oil 3× more efficiently. Vitamin E and fatty acids restore softness and lasting hydration for days.
Heat and steam soothe sore muscles and stiff joints — a perfect recovery treatment after long hikes in the Rif mountains.
You don't just leave with cleaner skin — you leave understanding a 1,000-year-old tradition that is still part of weekly Moroccan life.
